HARVEST MOON OCTOBER 2018

The first Full Moon after Sept. 22’s Equinox is also known as the HARVEST MOON  At this time of year in the northern hemisphere, as the Moon rises, it creates several nights of increased brightness, which was always helpful as farmers brought in the annual harvest.   This is the month when the leaves are falling and the game is fattened. Now is the time for hunting and laying in a store of provisions for the long winter ahead. October’s Moon is also known as the Travel Moon and the Dying Moon.

This moon alerts the animal and plant kingdom to prepare for the long winter ahead.  Time to prepare food to last the coming months, to clear the land to plant again in the spring, and the birds to migrate, hibernation, and collections of food and wood to provide nutrition and warmth for the next months leading up to the 00 Capricorn wherein the cold days of winter will be upon us.
